Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why is Polyaspartic better than epoxy?
Polyaspartic is 4 times more durable than epoxy, will not fade in the sunlight, will not turn yellow over time like epoxy does, can be installed in one day, and has an extremely fast return to service.

2. Why do you have to remove the old coating?
The Coating is only as good as what it is being applied to. If not removed, There is a high chance that the old coating will peel, resulting in premature delamination of your new floor coating.

3. Why do you have to diamond grind the floor?
Diamond grinding is the only way to ensure that all existing coatings, as well as dirt and oil, are removed. It will profile the concrete substrate and open up the pores of the concrete for maximum coating adhesion.

4. Why can’t you just use acid to clean the floor?
Acid will not remove any previous coatings and can actually do more damage than good. Acid can be used in some cases effectively but it is still far better to diamond grind the floor. Acid can also change the pH level of the floor which can cause adhesion problems.

5. Do the chips make the floor stronger?
Yes, the chips add strength to the floor. They also add additional layers which will give the floor more durability.

6. Is the floor slippery?
All of our products are designed not to be slippery. Our coatings have an "Orange Peel" type texture. If it is a concern though, we can add an additional non-slip aggregate to the top coat giving the floor extra slip resistance.

7. Can it be installed outside?
Our Polyaspartic Polyurea products are 100% UV stable and can be installed in any outdoor location.

8. How long does it take to install?
Our VERY FAST curing Polyaspartic Polyurea products can typically be installed in just 1 day, from start to finish, thats our niche. Our coatings allow you to get back to your life in only 24 hours! There’s no down time and you can start enjoying your beautiful new space right away.

9. How long before I can walk or drive on it?
Epoxy and Urethane floors need 2-4 days before being walked on and up to a week to drive on. Our Polyaspartic Polyurea producst can be walked on in just 2 hours and accept vehicular traffic in just 24 hours.

10. What kind of maintenance is required to keep my concrete coating looking great for years to come?
Our Polyurea coatings we install is practically impervious to stains, easy to clean and is even antimicrobial. A simple hosing off to get rid of surface dirt is all you need. That’s why this material is such a great choice as a patio coating, garage floor coating or even industrial floor coating.

11.  I have some cracks in my concrete, What can you do about those?
An integral part of our preparation process is concrete crack repair. We can fill and repair cracks with a material that is even stronger than the original concrete. We then grind the entire surface down to an even finish before applying the polyurea. You’ll never even know they were there!

12. Does this concrete coating come with any kind of warranty?
Yes! We stand behind our workmanship and the materials we use 100% and are proud to offer a full 15-year warranty.

13.  What does it cost?
Every project is unique. We offer so many options and each application is completed to the customers’ specifications. That means you’re in charge! All our estimates are free and require zero obligation. Give us a call to schedule your free estimate today!

14. I want to have my garage floor done. Where do I put my stuff?
Our customers typically put items inside the house, on the porch, or under a tarp outside. If you don’t have space, our customers have a portable storage unit delivered to your driveway and you can even lock up your valuables.

15. Is there a difference from your product and what I can buy/install myself from home improvement/paint stores?
Yes. The products we apply are industrial coatings that require experienced technicians to install. Floor coating kits marketed and sold to painters and home owners do not hold up to automobile traffic, oil, and road salts.

16. What is the difference between epoxy and polyaspartic Polyurea coatings?
The biggest difference is that most Epoxy type coatings are mostly installed in indoor applications due to most of them not being UV stable. Epoxy coatings are typically a very hard and brittle type of coating and if you drop something heavy on the floor, it could crack the coating. Epoxy coatings do have their uses but just not in a residential application. Epoxy coatings can mostly be applied by anyone without previous experience as they have a long pot life. Polyaspartic Polyurea coatings, on the other hand are industrial grade coatings that cure very rapidly, are 100 %UV resistant, but can only be applied by certified, professional installation teams.

17. Why shouldnt i just purchase a Do-it-yourself kit from a big box store and coat the floor myself, its much cheaper that way?
Each year millions of dollars are spent on floor coating systems that fail due to inadequate surface preparation or improper installation. The most substantial cost of a coating is not the product itself, but the cost associated with the proper surface preparation and application of the coating system. Many "DIY" coatings last about 3-6 months before peeling and flaking occurs. A professionally applied floor coating system by Fortress Floor Coatings is guaranteed to last 15 years from the date of installation.

18. How does everyday garage chemicals effect the floor coating?
Our floor coatings are highly chemical resistant to gasoline, motor oil, and many other typical chemicals stored in a garage.

19. My floor is extremely dirty and has oil everywhere. Can a Polyaspartic Polyurea coating be put down?
Yes. it does not matter if the garage floor is dirty. We have all the necessarily equipment to prep the floor correctly. By the time we are done preparing your floor it will look like brand new concrete. Any type of oil, grease grime dirt ect…. is considered a contaminate and will be completely removed before installing your new Polyaspartic Polyurea floor coating.

20. My home is a brand new build. Do you still need to prep the floors?
Yes, wether the floor is brand new or 30 years old the floor still needs prepped to allow proper profiling and penetration of the concrete to ensure maximum coating adhesion.
